Romanticization of the Good Old Days

I still recall the way it used to be;

The days of youth are just a memory.

Now each step you take is a step that’s stressed;

In the times of yore, you were just caressed.

Your life was peaceful, with no worries found;

Nowadays, people are pushed to the ground.

Without care for money, power, and greed,

Signs of that no more, all left in the breeze.

News stations flashed and blared, but were ignored,

For the baby’s firsts were so much more.

From the stroller to running in the park,

Mom ensures that she does land on the bark.

Playing with her new friends in the sandpit,

Dad makes sure to brush off her best outfit.

Ice cream dripping down chins, what a feeling—

Listening to when music had meaning.

Competition paves the way for choices,

Needing confirmation from all voices.

Society changed in front of their eyes;

Loyalty and lullabies turned to lies.

The trust is broken and cannot be fixed,

Used to be one, now more ideas are mixed.

Whatever happened to the good old days;

All that is left is just a blurry haze.
